Hen party group learning a routine together
Six queens, one hen

SIX the Musical Hen Party Dance Class SwanseaBeheaded, divorced, thoroughly booked.

SIX the Musical was written as a pop concert that happens to be about Tudor wives, and that is exactly why it works on a hen weekend: the staging is a line of women with microphones taking turns to argue about who had it worst. Structurally, that is a hen weekend. Your teacher builds the group’s own version on the day — sharp arms, attitude in the shoulders, a line that gives every queen a bar to herself — in the room we hire on Oystermouth Road or at your hen house across South West Wales. £185 for the whole party over ninety minutes, £160 for the hour, and the venue’s hire cost is the only extra. No experience needed; knowing the words helps and is not compulsory.

Get down, get booked.

The date, a rough headcount, a start time you fancy. Within the day we send availability, which room, the class fee and what the venue charges — both numbers in writing before you commit to either. Not certain the group will stay with SIX? Take the slot regardless; themes are the easy thing to move.

SIX has climbed the request list two years running, and the good dates behave accordingly

SIX the Musical enquiry

Six fields that matter and three that do not. Under a minute either way.

One of us replies — nothing automated in the loop.

Why SIX out-books the rest of the shelf

Six leads, one chorus no chorus.

Most stage numbers put one person at the front and turn everybody else into wallpaper. This show has no chorus at all, which turns out to be the single most useful fact about it for a hen party dance class: the material naturally divides into featured moments, so the bride gets one, the mother of the bride gets one, and the friend who insisted she would only be watching discovers she has a bar of her own.

It is also recent enough that the group already knows the tone, which saves about twenty minutes of explaining. Nobody has to be talked into the attitude — most parties arrive carrying it and simply need somewhere to point it.

i.

Everybody gets a moment. A hen do dance class where the featured bits are shared out rather than fought over, because the show itself is built that way.

ii.

Nothing is ours to lend. Ruffs, crowns, sashes, anything Tudor: all of it comes with the group. There is no rail here to raid.

iii.

Gig, not school play. Staged like a concert, which is why a dance hen party built on it never tips into a school production.

How SIX sits in a Swansea weekend

This one photographs best as the light goes. Late-afternoon class on Oystermouth Road, back to the house, then out — and if the weekend already has something at Brangwyn Hall or a table on Wind Street in it, we build around those timings rather than asking you to. Parties out towards Gower or Mumbles have us come to the accommodation, where six queens cwtched into one rented living room is precisely the chaos everybody signed up for.

As hen party activities go, one that ends with six people convinced they can sing is difficult to beat.

Where

A stage that isn’t one.

The room we hire on Oystermouth Road gives you a clear front to face and width enough for six abreast, which is the only real staging requirement this theme has. The bay is opposite and the Marina is minutes away for photographs afterwards.

Nothing is agreed until the room’s hire figure is in front of you in writing, next to the date. We are a Swansea dance school teaching a style the show made popular, with no connection to the production or to anybody who owns it — worth saying out loud.

We are a group of eleven and somehow all eleven of us ended up with something to do. Nobody was left standing at the back.

SIX, interrogated.

the six that come up first ↓

Do we each have to be a different queen?+

That is entirely up to your group. Some parties allocate all six on the way in and hold to it; others let the teacher hand out featured moments as she sees who is enjoying what. Groups bigger than six simply double up, which has never bothered anybody.

Do you supply crowns, ruffs or microphones?+

No. Nothing of that kind is ours to lend, so whatever the party brings is what ends up on camera. Hairbrushes have stood in for microphones more than once and the footage was better for it.

What does a SIX the Musical hen class cost?+

The party pays £185 across ninety minutes or £160 across sixty, and the venue’s hire charge is quoted alongside. At your own hen house there is nothing to pay for the room.

Is it too fast for people who do not dance?+

It looks quicker than it is taught. Everything gets drilled at half speed first and is only lifted once the room is ready, and the routine is built around the pace the group can genuinely hold rather than the pace on the cast recording.

Can we combine SIX with another musical theme?+

Yes, and a few groups do. Say so in the message box and your teacher will plan the ninety minutes with a second flavour running through it. She is writing it herself, so there is room for that sort of request.

How large can the group be for this?+

We have taught nine and we have taught twenty-eight. Beyond about twenty the room starts to matter more than the theme does, so give us your numbers early and we will tell you which of the rooms we hire will actually take you.

A seventh option, or two.
